Mezzanine Gallery

IMG_4800.jpeg

The Mezzanine Gallery is an original industrial space that invites a totally different connection to the artwork displayed here.

Full of natural light, high ceilings and original leadlight windows, the Mezzanine features a wide wall for 2D artworks, and various vintage furnishings for 3D artworks. The overall atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and a pleasant change from sterile white walls.

The flexibility of the Mezzanine Gallery is one of its unique strengths.

The space is large enough to accomodate a wide variety of artwork, without seeming too cramped or too spaced out; and no two exhibitions ever seem the same.

The Mezzanine holds our workshop space, and exhibiting artists are encourage to hold their own workshops, artist talks and demonstrations during their exhibition.

The total available floor area is approximately 70sqm

A preference for art that is New and Unseen

The Churn Room has a a reputation for high quality, and giving visitors something new to see, and this extends to our gallery spaces.

Our visitors come not just from our local area... they travel from Brisbane, Sunshine and Gold Coasts, Northern NSW and regional Qld; and they love art. They love handmade, and they love the ability to engage directly with artists and artisans. In turn, we seeking to give them artwork they would not have seen previously, and to be amongst the first people who get to see it.

In planning our exhibition program, we give greater consideration to Expressions of Interest that help us to achieve that goal. Our preference is to hosts artists and artisans with work that is relatively new and has not been widely exhibited - especially in our local area.

From professional artists, to those who are emerging; artists who have exhibited extensively to those preparing for their first; The Churn Room seeks to present a diverse, intruiguing, interesting, and novel range of artworks, techniques, media and subject matter to our visitors.

Professional Assistance with your Exhibition

The Churn Room's atmosphere of inclusivity, involvement and sharing of knowledge extends to our exhibition spaces, and our Exhibiting Artisans.

Our exhibition fees automatically include creation and printing of a flyer for you to distribute; promotion across our website, contact database, and social media accounts; creating the artwork labels to go alongside your artworks; and curatorial assistance with the display of your artwork.

Also included is a meeting (in person or via zoom), once your expression of interest is accepted and details for your exhibition are confirmed. The purpose of this meeting is - aside from meeting you - for us to gain an understanding of your artwork and the vision for your exhibition, and to offer any guidance you may need to achieve your goal.

We find this opportunity is extremely helpful for artists who aren't yet experienced with exhibiting their work. We love to share the knowledge and experience we've gained, both as artists and as professionals in the business of art.

Engaging with Community

One of The Churn Room's core values centres around connecting artisans, artists and sustainable practices with the general community.

We find that artists and artisans who actively involve themselves in their exhibition, and take advantage of opportunities to engage with visitors, have more successful exhibitions overall.

There are many ways you can do this, including:

  • Holding an opening event

  • Spending time in your exhibition talking to visitors about your work (especially over the weekends)

  • Hosting artist talks about your inspiration and processes

  • Giving demonstrations, or simply creating within the exhibition space

  • Running a workshop/s (public liability insurance required)*

The Churn Room is happy to offer guidance and assistance with these activities so that you - and the community - can get the most out of your exhibition.

Booking an Exhibition
We're excited that you're interested in holding an exhibition at The Churn Room.

1. The first step is to complete and submit the Expression of Interest form.

2. We'll review the information you've provided, check out your links, and consider the exhibition you're proposing.

3. We'll then advise you via email whether your application is successful or not.
Please allow us time to do this - if we're keen to show your work, but have a conflict on dates/spaces, or feel a different opportunity is a better fit, we want to explore those options to come back to you with an alternative solution.
We also prioritise enquiries for exhibitions being booked earlier than later.

4. If your Expression of Interest is successful, we'll send you an Exhibiting Artisan Agreement, full Terms & Conditions, and a deposit invoice.
Your exhibition booking is confirmed only when the signed agreement is returned and the deposit is paid.

5. Once your exhibition is confirmed, we'll request to meet with you so we can all start the preparation and planning for your exhibition.
